RSD announces Latest Release of EOS/Server for Unix and Windows servers

(Geneva, Switzerland) - RSD is now delivering the Enterprise Output Solution (EOS) version 1.2.1 for Unix (AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Linux) and Windows servers (NT and 2000).

This latest release of EOS/Server for Unix and Windows servers includes the following new features:

  • The Storage Management component provides routine backup and/or migration of archived files to a storage system external to EOS and the restoration of these files upon demand.
  • A SAP certified interface seamlessly captures reports generated within SAP and integrates them automatically within EOS.
  • A total end-to-end solution for capturing images as they are scanned and incorporating them as documents in the EOS system.
  • A single Global View of all EOS information housed on multiple EOS servers running under different platforms.

About the Storage Management component

The Storage Management component automates the backup and/or migration to external storage devices and restoration of these files when necessary. This interface has been tested using Veritas Netbackup, release 3.2.

About the SAP integration

RSD recently received (BX-COM) SAP certification, allowing us to offer the EOS/SAP interface which seamlessly captures SAP generated output and incorporates these reports within EOS. The Enterprise can now use EOS as a single repository to manage both ERP data and any other application reports and documents.

About the incorporation of image files

For image data, RSD has partnered with Kodak and Kofax in order to provide a total end-to-end imaging capability for EOS by coupling their technologies with that of RSD. Scanned images can automatically be assigned to recipients within EOS allowing these documents to be directly distributed to users or to be accessed online.

About the Global View

Support for the Global View monitor has been added to permit users to connect to EOS servers across multiple platforms. Now users have the facility, from a single session, to view reports and documents contained in EOS servers running on all supported Unix, Windows and OS/390 platforms.

The EOS system

EOS is a comprehensive software system designed to efficiently and automatically manage massive report and document output from the time it is generated until it is no longer needed. The system handles the following tasks:

Capture: The capture of all computer generated output including: AFP, Postscript, PDF, image, text and page mode. New components capture data that is output by specialized applications (SAP, Kofax and Kodak) and incorporate the individual files as documents (assigned to recipients) within EOS. EOS indexing provides users with 'fast' access to a single page or document totally independent of where it is stored i.e., on-line, optical, tape.

Archives, backup, migration, restoration: The automatic archiving of captured output and ongoing management of these archives for the lifetime of the data (be it for a day or a decade). A new storage management module facilitates the backup and/or migration of archived data to external storage and the automated restoration of files when needed.

Distribution: The distribution of EOS reports and documents to any destination, including all EOS servers, external applications, e-mail, printers, fax machines and PCs.

Online access: The option of accessing EOS from various clients, permits the Enterprise to provide the same information to users across a dissimilar computing environment. Clients offer the possibility for customized views and search facilities. Viewing of reports and documents is enabled via:

  • EOS Thin Client, a specialized Web application.
  • EOS/PC offering the ability to have customized views, to bookmark or add annotations to report data and to email reports.
  • EOS/API which permits access to EOS data within any customized application.
