The CIO and the datacenter management team sit at the intersection of irreversible growth vectors.

On one side, the growth in business application data streams, whether from payroll applications, billing systems, or other enterprise applications.  On the other, employees and customers are generating growing volumes of a variety of rich content in the form of documents: help desk inquiries; orders for products or services; reports; presentations; spreadsheets.

On the other, the corporate executive team and the board of directors are demanding more accountability from all of senior management.  They, in turn, are pressured by evolving national and global governance and compliance standards.  Failure to conform means exposure to material risk and draconian financial penalties.

These CIOs require infrastructure that can keep pace with the growth in data, reports, documents and other content, while at the same time mitigating the serious business risks presented by government regulations and standard industry compliance practices.
At RSD, we call the challenge defined at this intersection of business drivers “the information governance imperative.”  And with over three decades delivering solutions that address this challenge, we take great pride in our offerings, but even greater pride in our customers’ success with our products.

A complete solution that addresses these challenges must acknowledge the diverse requirements of a content-intensive enterprise.  The solution must include:

  1. Business Information Delivery.
  2. Document and Content Management.
  3. Enterprise Archiving and Retrieval.

Business information delivery technology supports the needs of the company’s primary and mission-critical business applications, and the reliable distribution of data and reports from those systems. The data and reports from these systems are highly structured, are required by management reporting rules on rigid schedules, and typically produce “point in time” snapshots of the business. An example: the month-end run of customer statements from a telecommunications company, utility, or a bank.

Documents and content management solutions, on the other hand, manage business information and business documents from a different perspective.  Rather than oriented around the process intervals of management rules and structured data, document management solutions must provide access to documents and business data across time, and integrate all content related to a customer, or to a business transaction, no matter what the original content type.  An example: a view of all communications with and documents relating to a specific customer.

All enterprise applications, including business information delivery and document and content management solutions, require archiving services.  Robust and reliable archiving services must support massive volumes of content, across multiple tiers of storage, and comply with extremely rigid and complex regulatory requirements regarding document retention and disposition.

At RSD, we believe our products, and the expertise of our people and partners, combine to offer a solution to the information governance challenge which is second to none.
