The customer
TNT Express is one of the world's top providers of global express distribution services. TNT provides on-demand, time-definite and day-certain delivery of documents, parcels and freight.
TNT operates in more countries than the United Nations, providing express services to more than 200 countries. Intra-regional services are offered in Europe and Asia. In Europe, TNT is the only company offering local, regional and pan-European road and air express services in all major European countries.
Delivering business critical data on a worldwide basis
"EOS can be accessed from each of our depots throughout the world. It is a true worldwide solution", says John Capes, Senior Operations Analyst at TNT. EOS handles the worldwide distribution of all reports that facilitate the movement of consignments to its global network of depots and customers.
From a headquarters perspective, worldwide co-ordination often requires simultaneous distribution and immediate availability of information for all international depots and locations (some 878 at TNT). "One of EOS' strengths is that it can ensure rapid distribution. We regularly generate reports that contain information for the whole world. The reports are split and distributed depot by depot by EOS, allowing every user to have their own section of the report. In essence we run one report, and it immediately goes around the world", says Capes.
Vast volumes
TNT has 15,000 EOS users, 70,000 online reports accounting for 225 million lines and a further 100,000 reports are held in the archives, some of which are held for 5 years.
Reduction in machine processing and user time with EOS's Table of Contents
TNT implemented EOS's Table of Contents(TOC) indexing functionality for the Invoice documents, which has brought significant benefits, by simplifying the retrieval of information in large reports. As explained by Capes, "if one of our Customer Service Representatives receives a query for an invoice stored on an archived report, the TOC is used to determine which of the reports contains the invoice. Then only this report is requested for retrieval. The TOC has saved us a lot of processing because we only access the tapes we know we need. This has not only reduced the amount of tapes processed, but also reduced the effort required by the user to locate the document".
Easy to maintain
"The evolution of the product, its performance and functionality has met both the user and technician's needs". He adds "each new version of EOS has added new functionality and made the product easier to maintain".
EOS supporting TNT business
"By handling the report distribution and control, EOS is key to the operation of the business", says Capes. "The product is developed by RSD from the requests we raise and we feed back to the User Group how we at TNT exploit these enhancements".
The TNT story is a good illustration of EOS's capacity to ensure rapid and secure distribution of documents and to provide for immediate availability of reports at all TNT locations throughout the world.
